The NPS is used to measure the loyalty and promoter score of a company\u2019s customers while the CNPS measures the loyalty and promoter score of the candidates in the recruitment process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To read more about the concept of Candidate Net Promoter Score and CNPS, Read our&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.trustcruit.com\/nl\/blog\/candidate-nps-all-you-need-to-know\/\">Ultimate Guide to CNPS<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Does the Metric Candidate Net Promoter Score Work?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Asking your candidates the question&nbsp;<em>\u201cHow likely is it that you would recommend X to a friend or colleague?\u201d<\/em>&nbsp;is what lays the foundation to the CNPS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The question can be answered on a scale of 0-10, where 0 represents the value of not being likely to recommend your company to a friend or colleague and 10 indicates that the candidate is very likely to promote your company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The CNPS scale ranges from -100 to +100 which means that the numbers scores collected from your candidates can give you a CNPS between -100 to 100 which indicates how likely your candidates are to promote your company. The higher the CNPS, the more loyal candidates and promoters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If we say that your company wants to measure the candidate experience of 50 candidates with the CNPS and you get the following results:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><tbody><tr><th><strong>0:<\/strong>&nbsp;12<\/th><\/tr><tr><th><strong>1:<\/strong>&nbsp;1<\/th><\/tr><tr><th><strong>2:<\/strong>&nbsp;3<\/th><\/tr><tr><th><strong>4:<\/strong>&nbsp;2<\/th><\/tr><tr><th><strong>5:<\/strong>&nbsp;1<\/th><\/tr><tr><th><strong>6:<\/strong>&nbsp;2<\/th><\/tr><tr><th><strong>7:<\/strong>&nbsp;5<\/th><\/tr><tr><th><strong>8:<\/strong>&nbsp;5<\/th><\/tr><tr><th><strong>9:<\/strong>&nbsp;8<\/th><\/tr><tr><th><strong>10:<\/strong>&nbsp;10<\/th><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The candidates who answered between 0 and 6 are called the&nbsp;<em>Detractors<\/em>. These candidates are not likely to recommend your company to a friend or colleague. Then we have the candidates that have been answering 9 or 10. They are very likely to recommend your company to a friend or colleague and are therefore called the&nbsp;<em>Promoters<\/em>. In the middle, between 7-8 we have the&nbsp;<em>Passives<\/em>, which refers to the candidates that neither resists to promote your brand nor promoters of your brand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Summing up the scores into the 3 categories of candidates: Detractors, Passives and Promoters and calculating them into a percentage of the total number of candidates (in this case 50) makes it possible to calculate the Candidate Net Promoter Score.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If we continue with the earlier example we will get the following percentages: Detractors: 44% Passives: 20% Promoters: 36%<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you then continue with subtracting the percentage of Detractors from the percentage of Promoters (Promoters 36 \u2013 Detractors 44) it will give you a CNPS of -8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"976\" height=\"603\" src=\"https:\/\/www.trustcruit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Screenshot-2021-09-10-at-11.19.59.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-514\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.trustcruit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Screenshot-2021-09-10-at-11.19.59.png 976w, https:\/\/www.trustcruit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Screenshot-2021-09-10-at-11.19.59-480x297.png 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 976px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Interpret the Result of Candidate Net Promoter Score<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When you have calculated the Candidate Net Promoter Score of -8, is this good or bad? How should we interpret this? CNPS is a research-based metric from a Harvard Professor called Frederick Reichheld and that research explains how the metric should be interpreted using benchmarking (Reichheld, 2003).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That means that -8 can be both good or bad, depends on what your competitor\u2019s scores are.
